A destination wedding is never just about the wedding day.
There is something incredibly special about arriving the day before a destination wedding. Everyone has time to settle in, meet each other and slowly ease into the wedding weekend.
For this beautiful Tuscany wedding, the couple invited around 20 of their closest friends and family to Villa Pienza the day before the wedding.
And what better way to start a wedding weekend in Italy than with a cooking experience together And what better way to start a wedding weekend in Italy than with a cooking experience together, enjoying delicious homemade food, good wine and plenty of fun? 🇮🇹
A Get-Together in Tuscany.
The wonderful ladies at Villa Pienza welcomed everyone with so much warmth and joy. Together with the couple and their guests, they made fresh tagliatelle and prepared tiramisu for the evening.
There was laughter, flour on the table, joyful conversation and that wonderful feeling of anticipation that comes when everyone knows: tomorrow is the big day.
More Than Just an Evening Before the Wedding
I loved photographing these little moments — the hands preparing the food, the ingredients on the table, the details of the dinner, the laughter and all those in-between moments that might otherwise never make it into the wedding gallery.
And honestly, while editing these photographs, I found myself right back there.
I could almost hear everyone laughing again.
Why I love photographing the evening before
A destination wedding is so much more than a single wedding day. When couples and their guests travel to Tuscany, Mallorca, Sicily or somewhere else in the world to celebrate together, they have created something much bigger than a wedding timeline.
They have created a weekend.
A little escape from everyday life.
And a welcome dinner or get-together is the perfect beginning.
It gives everyone time to arrive, settle in and connect. The couple can spend time with their favourite people without the pressure of the wedding day schedule. Guests get to know each other. And by the time the wedding morning arrives, the atmosphere is already filled with familiarity and excitement.
As a wedding photographer, I love this because it allows me to tell a much more complete story. Not just the ceremony and the portraits, but the feeling of the entire wedding weekend.
A little holiday before the wedding
Maybe that is what I love most about destination weddings. You arrive somewhere beautiful, surrounded by the people you love, and for a few days everyday life simply disappears. There is time for long dinners, laughter, exploring, cooking together, swimming, talking late into the evening, and for being completely present with the people who matter most. The wedding becomes the beautiful centre of a much bigger experience. And that is exactly what I want to photograph: not just how your wedding looked, but how your wedding weekend felt.
